The flotation method is the one with the lowest energy consumption and reagent consumption and the lowest cost among the conventional mineral purification methods, which is the biggest advantage of the flotation method for purifying graphite. However, the use of flotation method to purify graphite can only achieve a limited increase in the grade of graphite, for flake graphite, the use of multi-stage grinding not only can not be completely monomer dissociation, and is not conducive to protecting the large scale of graphite. Therefore, it is neither economical nor scientific to further improve the graphite grade by flotation method. In order to obtain high-carbon graphite with more than 99% carbon content, the graphite must be purified by chemical methods.
(A) alkali acid purification method.
The carbon content of graphite purified by alkali-acid method can reach more than 99%, which has the characteristics of less one-time investment, higher product grade and strong process adaptability. Moreover, it also has the advantages of conventional equipment and strong versatility (in addition to graphite, many non-metallic ores can be purified by alkali-acid method), which is the most widely used method in our country nowadays; Its disadvantages are large energy consumption, long reaction time, large graphite loss and serious waste water pollution.
(2) hydrofluoric acid method.
The main advantages of hydrofluoric acid method are high impurity removal efficiency, high grade of products, little influence on the performance of graphite products, and low energy consumption. The disadvantage is that the hydrofluoric acid is highly toxic and corrosive, the production process must have strict safety protection measures, the strict requirements for equipment also lead to the cost of the increase, in addition, the hydrofluoric acid method produced by the wastewater toxicity and corrosion are very strong, need to be strictly treated before discharge, environmental protection investment also makes the advantages of low cost of hydrofluoric acid method greatly reduced.
(3) chlorination roasting method.
The low roasting temperature and small chlorine gas consumption of chlorination roasting method greatly reduce the production cost of graphite, and the carbon content of graphite products is similar to that of hydrofluoric acid treatment, compared with the recovery rate of chlorination roasting method. However, because chlorine gas is toxic and corrosive, it has high requirements for equipment operation, needs to be strictly sealed, and the exhaust gas must be properly handled, so its promotion and application are limited to a certain extent.
(4) High temperature method.
The biggest advantage is that the carbon content of the product is very high, up to 99.995% or more, the disadvantage is that it must be specially designed and built high temperature furnace, expensive equipment, one-time investment, in addition, large energy consumption, high electricity costs increase the production cost. And the harsh production conditions also make the application range of this method is extremely limited, only national defense, aerospace and other occasions have special requirements for the purity of graphite products to consider the use of this method for small batch production of graphite, industry can not achieve promotion.
The comparative analysis shows that several methods of graphite purification have their own advantages and disadvantages. The alkali-acid method is easy to operate, the production cost is low, and the production conditions are also low, but the fixed carbon content of the produced graphite is low, which can not reach 99.9% from the current point of view. The hydrofluoric acid method has good impurity removal effect and high fixed carbon content of the product, but the hydrofluoric acid is highly toxic and corrosive, and the safety protection measures and production conditions are strict, and the wastewater is not easy to treat.
